Ukrainian School Association Ridna Shkola
The Ukrainian School Association Ridna Shkola has run a Ukrainian supplementary school in Munich since 1966. It teaches children and young people the Ukrainian language, literature, history and traditions and also supports Ukrainian students. Since 1972 the association has had its own building.
The Ukrainian School Association Ridna Shkola (Tovarystvo «Ridna Shkola») was founded on 2 March 1966 in Munich and is a founding member of the Association of Ukrainian Organisations in Germany. Since 1972 the association has run its own building, made possible with the support of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.
At the heart of the association is its Ukrainian Saturday school, where children and young people learn the Ukrainian language, literature, history, traditions and Christian values. Holiday programmes for children aged 3 to 16 complement the school.
The association also supports Ukrainian students aged 19 to 26 — for instance during Erasmus stays and studies at LMU and TU Munich — providing accommodation and meals.
Since the Russian war of aggression began in 2022, Ridna Shkola has cared for traumatised children from Ukrainian war zones who come to Germany to recover, working together with the Ukrainian Free University in Munich and Bavarian state authorities.
