Pro Ukraine
Pro Ukraine, based in Ratingen, is one of the oldest Ukrainian charitable organisations in North Rhine-Westphalia. Since 2003 it has supported children in Ukraine through scholarships and educational projects — with a focus since 2022 on children affected by the war.
Pro Ukraine (Pro Ukraine – Helping Children) was founded in 2003 in Ratingen and is one of the oldest registered Ukrainian associations in North Rhine-Westphalia. Recognised as a charitable organisation, it is a member of the Association of Ukrainian Organisations in Germany.
For over two decades Pro Ukraine has been dedicated to supporting children and young people in Ukraine. The association awards scholarships to talented pupils, organises study trips to Germany and supports educational and health projects — with a particular focus on the town of Rohatyn and its lyceum.
Long-standing projects include German-language teaching, the promotion of music and culture, and improvements to school infrastructure, such as the conversion of a school basement into a youth centre completed in late 2021.
Since the Russian war of aggression began in 2022, the focus has shifted to easing the humanitarian hardship of children affected by the war. The youth centre in Rohatyn now also serves as a shelter. The chairwoman received a special award in 2022 in recognition of her long-standing commitment.
